I've always been of the "I can wear my Teva sandals anywhere, for any amount of time." Well, apparently, a walking marathon is well outside the limits of said Tevas.
They caused some nasty-ass blisters on the pads of my feet... which burst at mile 16. Great fun.
So, anyway, don't leave your walking/running shoes in Alaska if you're going to do a walking marathon, unless that walking marathon is IN Alaska, in which case, you're golden.

Smacca, Smacca, Smacca ...
When the roadie ex and I broke up forever ago, I couldn't sleep and was going crazy sitting in my dorm room ... so I went for a walk ... at 3 a.m. ... in my Tevas ... for three hours.
I had THE biggest blisters on the bottom of my feet. HUGE. PAINFUL. DISGUSTING!
Aside from the blisters, how was the marathon?

Well, since the last 10 miles were completed with painful blisters on the bottoms of my feet, it was not wonderful. I'd never actually felt a blister pop with such forcefulness before.
But the walking marathon was pretty, and it was fun to chat with an old friend. The Green Circle basically winds around the Stevens Point area, so it's mostly a wide wooded gravel or dirt path. After a year on the tundra, 8 hours in the trees wasn't bad.
Aren't you signed up for a sprint tri next month? I hope you get some new shoes before then.
Why, yes, yes I am, anonymous stranger. And I have new shoes, sitting up in my room, waiting to be tested out on the Midtown YWCA indoor track... I'm going tonight at 8 with one of my housemates.
